JET diversifies the teacher workforce

Students need diverse teachers.

JET’s unique model addresses this gap in urban communities where the need is greatest. We recruit diverse paraprofessionals without bachelor’s degrees who already work in the classroom, know their communities, and have the makings of great teachers.

We help these capable and committed educators get their degrees and the training they need to become licensed teachers.

The main reason I joined JET was financial. But the encouragement and motivation JET provided became important… JET has allowed me to achieve what I wanted: becoming a teacher.

“The JET program was a key factor in helping me accomplish my bachelor's degree. Not only because of the financial help but [also the] constant support, guidance, and help throughout a process that was so foreign to me.”

— Tatiana Obeso, 2016 JET Cohort, Dance Teacher, Boston Arts Academy, Boston Public Schools

“JET saw the wealth of talent in classroom paraprofessionals and decided to invest in us. JET supported my journey in becoming a licensed teacher in the Boston Public Schools and worked with me every step of the way to ensure that I was staying on track. I grew more confident with the guidance and support of JET and my cohort members.

— Kamini Pulchansingh, 2017 JET Cohort, K0-K1 Teacher, King K-8 School, Boston Public Schools
